Captain Blood Finally Sets Sail After Being Saved From Cancellation

News: A new pirate adventure is now available to enjoy having originally been developed for the Xbox 360 and PS3 generation.

SNEG has revealed that Captain Blood has finally arrived after two decades of development and is available now for PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Of course the game wasn’t in active development the entire time and at one point the game was cancelled and no one thought it would see the light of day. SNEG revived it though and now Captain Blood is available with a 10% launch discount at the $24.99 / 24,99€ / 20,99£ price on all platforms.

Initially intended for a 2010s release on PC and consoles, the planned launch was scuppered when the original publisher went bankrupt, and a series of legal challenges prevented the developers from releasing the game themselves. Fifteen years later, with the blessing of the original dev team, SNEG took the helm to salvage and restore the game, bringing it into the modern age, while conserving the retro look, feel, and gameplay from the decade it was created.

“The original developers put years of hard work into this game and never got the credit for their efforts or to see gamers playing it. Today, this launch is for them. We hope players everywhere will enjoy and appreciate their work and show their support for the preservation of more cancelled gems like Captain Blood in the future,” said SNEG co-founders Artem Shchuiko and Oleg Klapovskiy in a statement today.

“When we first learned that the game wouldn’t be released, it felt devastating - like all our hard work had vanished into thin air. Seeing it finally launch today feels almost unreal. It’s a moment of pride and joy for the entire team,” said Sergey Makeev, former Project Lead on Captain Blood at Seawolf Studio and currently Senior Technical Director at Roblox.

You play as Captain Blood, the manliest pirate captain ever to drink grog while romancing maidens across the Spanish Main. When the local magistrate’s beautiful, buxom daughter is kidnapped, he swallows his pride and hires you and your crew to rescue her. Expect wild adventures with cannon firing, pistol shooting, swashbuckling sword fights, and plenty of pirate shenanigans. This action-packed hack n slash features fierce hand-to-hand combat, hordes of enemies, and a classic fighting system with flashy combos and epic finishers.
