News: Go on, pretend to be surprised.

Dan Rosensweig, the CEO and President of Activision's Guitar Hero brand, recently spoke to MCV and spilled the beans on the company's Heroic plans for next year.

According to Rosensweig, there will likely be fewer Hero games released next year:

"You will probably see fewer SKUs from us, but the focus on making the best-selling, most fun to play, best-reviewed games will continue."

All told, Activision released six Hero games this year (Metallica, Greatest Hits, Guitar Hero 5, DJ Hero, Band Hero and Van Halen), so a reduction in the number of titles added to the series in a single year is probably a good thing.

However, Rosensweig followed that up with confirmation that Guitar Hero 6, Band Hero 2 and DJ Hero 2 are all in development for release next year:

"[There will be] more DJ Hero, and the next iterations of Guitar and Band are on the way. But we will see how the market plays out. What you will see is the games will live longer and be more vibrant through DLC."

As you can see, he also pledged that 2010 would focus more on downloadable songs for the various Hero games, but Activision has made that promise before.

We'll have more soon.
