News: Remix of classic Contra gets the go-ahead from Konami... in Japan.
After releasing Gradius ReBirth, a "remix" of previous levels and concepts found in the Gradius series redone in Super NES-style graphics, on the WiiWare service recently, Konami has gone and announced they will be continuing the ReBirth experiment with Contra ReBirth.
Contra ReBirth will be added to the WiiWare service in Japan on May 12 for 1,000 Wii Points ($10). Konami has not yet announced an American release date, but considering the popularity of Contra 4, a US release is almost assured. It will also include that staple of the Contra series, two-player co-operative play.
Konami has not revealed any other details about the game, but a series of screenshots on the
Konami Japan site show off some of the remixed levels and bosses. Making a return in Contra ReBirth are the Base level and boss from
Contra III: The Alien Wars, the train level from
Contra: Hard Corps and a pair of bosses from
Contra: Shattered Soldier: the Snow Worm and the Alien Fish.
