News: This remake of the first game in the series to offer plenty of new tricks.

Thought to be an April Fool's Day hoax, Konami has officially announced that Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, a remake of the original Silent Hill (that was released on the PSOne in 1999), will be coming to the PlayStation 2, PSP and Wii this Fall. The game will be developed by Climax, the same development team responsible for Silent Hill: Origins on the PS2 and PSP.

Like the original Silent Hill, Shattered Memories will place players in the shoes of Harry Mason as he searches for his daughter Cheryl in the town of Silent Hill. More than a simple remake, the game will also include new puzzles, new paths and new character interactions that were not present in the original Silent Hill.

Also new to Shattered Memories is the addition of a GPS-enabled cell phone and a torch that will powered by the Wii Remote. The torch will illuminate the dark corners of Silent Hill while the cell phone will be used as a GPS receiver to track points of interest on the map as well a camera to take pictures of interesting locations.

Finally, the game will keep a "psyche profile" of players, keeping track of things as which items they examine, which characters they talk to and which monsters they encounter. The psyche profile will then decide when certain characters or mosters appear, altering the game experience for everyone who plays it.

All of these new features will also be present in the PS2 and PSP versions of the game, albeit without the Wii Remote control.

We'll have more soon.
