While it was unofficially revealed months ago, Activision and developer Infinity Ward officially announced Modern Warfare 2 at the of the Game Developer's Conference, seemingly dropping the "Call of Duty" title and promoting the Modern Warfare subtitle. They also revealed a release date: November 10, 2009.
However, they did not say which platforms Modern Warfare 2 would be appearing on. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare appeared on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, so those are a good bet. The only question is whether it will come to the Wii as well or not.
