Midway has announced they have shipped 1.8 million copies across the worlf of their first Teen-rated Mortal Kombat game, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. The game was released in November for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

This is just the beginning for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, as MK creator Ed Boon has repeatedly said the game will receive additional features and characters through downloadable content.

However, the big news from this release is also the announcement that Mortal Kombat 9 is in development. Once again, Ed Boon had this to say: "We’re already hard at work on our next version of Mortal Kombat, and look forward to being able to reveal more details in the future."

We'll have more soon.
