News: Former Naughty Dogs join list of WiiWare developers.
Former Naughty Dog staffers, the team behind the Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter franchises, have announced that they have been accepted into the WiiWare program. Steel Penny Games, the Texas-based company formed by the Naughty Dog staffers Jason Hughes and Andrew Gilmour last year, plan on releasing an original intellectual property that Уblends a challenging puzzle game with dramatic fantasy environmentsФ for the Nintendo Wii in mid-2008 .
The team has spent the past year developing the title and a proprietary Wii engine for use with the unique system. Hughes described their method as "the modern equivalent of the garage method for an independent to gain a foothold in the industry--a unique opportunity WiiWare presents that we appreciate." Hughes continued with added praise for the WiiWare platform stating УI am impressed with the egalitarian approach Nintendo has taken toward WiiWare developers. It allows the risk burden to shift back onto the creative developers."
