News: The former head of FASA Studios reacquires his creations.
After releasing Shadowrun to mixed reviews this summer, Microsoft closed down FASA Studios in September 2007. But shortly after that development, Jordan Weisman, the founder of FASA, struck a deal with Microsoft. In a move that slipped by the entire gaming world, Weisman acquired the electronic entertainment rights to MechWarrior, Crimson Skies and Shadowrun.
The news first appeared on the site for Weisman's new company, Smith & Tinker, back in October and was recently brought to light by the boys at Gamasutra.
Here's the full announcement from Smith & Tinker, where they admit they're not quite ready to tell us what's in store for the three franchises:
Smith & Tinker is pleased to announce that it has licensed from Microsoft the electronic entertainment rights for Mr. Weisman's previous creations of MechWarrior, Shadowrun, Crimson Skies and the other properties of the FASA catalog. We're not quite ready to announce our plans for each property, but please be assured that our goal is to surprise and delight old fans, while welcoming new fans to these fantastic worlds.
We'll have more on the future of the faux-FASA soon.
