News: Timed exclusivity rears its head in the next Unreal Tournament.
Midway has announced that Unreal Tournament III will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and PC in 2007. While the game still has no release date other than TBA 2007, Midway has made it clear that it will not be coming to the Xbox 360 before 2008.
While this is a coup for Sony, the real trick appears to be that user-created mods for the PC version of UT3 will also work on the PS3 version. No one knows how these mods will be offered to gamers, but it is a very interesting development.
?We feel very confident that Unreal Tournament 3 will continue to deliver on Epic's promise to gamers to develop only the highest quality titles using our cutting-edge Unreal Engine 3 technology,? said Mark Rein, vice president and co-founder, Epic Games. ?The game takes full advantage of the power of the PlayStation 3 system, and Unreal Tournament 3 will for the first time allow users to create robust user created content, known as ?mods?, on the PC version and play them on the PlayStation 3 system. We're extremely excited about this and we feel this will bring a level of creativity, innovation and replayability not previously seen on home consoles.?
We'll have more on Unreal Tournament III soon.
