News: Because Nintendo of Canada said so.
Nintendo of Canada has released a press release announcing the development of Excite Truck 2.
The sequel to Nintendo's Wii launch game will include six-player online play with a "Mii display." Sadly, the game will use the dreaded Friend Code system for online matchmaking.
Excite Truck 2 will also feature new tracks in eight environments including the Moon. The trick system will be beefed up as well with the addition of the "frontflip" and the "backflip."
Finally, according to Nintendo, the graphics will get an overhaul "with better visual effects and shadows. We even implemented several ambiances to every track, like dawn or sunset."
We don't know when it will be coming, but we'll keep you posted.
UPDATE: It appears this may have been a hoax. Here's what Nintendo had to say about it when contacted by game site CVG:
"It seems to have stemmed from an unofficial source. We have not announced any sequel in the Excite Truck series."
Now that doesn't sound like a denial to me. It sounds more like Nintendo hasn't announced it yet. No doubt, time will tell.
