With the announcement of a Family Guy game to be released later this year, thousands of fans across the world grew excited in anticipation of a playable version of their favorite show. Not only did the popularity of the DVDs cause the once-cancelled FOX series to return for another season, but now fans of the series will be able ramp up their infatuation to another level.

Developer High Voltage Software is attempting to create a game that is on par quality-wise with the show, which is no easy task. But as more and more details are emerging, it seems that fans will be in for a treat. The game will allow gamers to control three characters: Peter Griffin, Stewie Griffin and Brian. But if Meg or Quagmire are your favorite characters for example, don’t fret, as over 200 characters from the show will be making cameo appearances. Everyone from the evil monkey to the old pedophile to Death himself will be making memorable appearances.

However, most of the game’s tasks will revolve around Peter, Stewie and Brian. According to a High Voltage Software producer, the Family Guy game will contain elements that should please fans of shooters, platformers, brawlers and even stealth games. As Stewie, players will attempt to take over the world and face off against Stewie’s unborn brother Bertram. Stewie will utilize a ray gun to take down his enemies, a mind control device to use others to his advantage, as well as balloons and grapple hooks to reach certain locations. Peter, on the other hand, is more of a hands-on type of fella. Peter takes down his enemies kung-fu style, as he will be supplied with a string of punches, kicks and moves to take out the bad guys. Peter is out on a quest to stop Mr. Belvedere, as Peter has reason to believe that Mr. Belvedere wishes to take over the world and has kidnapped his family.

And as if this is not enough, Brian is accused of impregnating the greyhound Sea Breeze, is arrested and sent to prison. It’s up to Brian to escape and clear his name, with the aid of a few disguises. All three stories will overlap and characters will be switched throughout the game. Several mini-games will also be scattered throughout the game to serve as distraction from the main gameplay. These will be presented in the form of flashbacks and are bound to capture the show’s humor.

The game features a unique three-dimensional cartoonish graphics style, similar to the one featured in the Futurama game. Many of the famous landmarks of Quahog, Rhode Island will serve as a backdrop in the game, reminiscent of the way Simpsons: Hit and Run was developed. The character models look great at the moment, yet with only a few screenshots in existence, we can just hope that the animations capture their personalities.

Final Thoughts
From what we’ve seen thus far, the game is bound to be an instant hit. Hopefully High Voltage Software and 2K games will deliver a game that will satisfy the urges of thousands of fans. Stay tuned for more developments prior to the scheduled December release date.
