News: No seriously, it's really coming out.
From the "It's not April 1st Yet" department comes the announcement that Buena Vista is publishing a Desperate Housewives game this fall.
Developed by Liquid Entertainment, the Desperate Housewives game will be a lifestyle sim (think The Sims) that places players into the expensive shoes of a new resident of Wisteria Lane. From there they will have to "unlock the delicious scandals hidden in the seemingly perfect neighborhood."
"'Desperate Housewives' continues to be one of the most popular shows on primetime television and a pop culture phenomenon," said Bruce Gersh, senior vice president of business development, ABC Entertainment and Touchstone Television. "We are continually looking to build upon this successful franchise and believe that extending this program into the world of PC gaming will result in a fun new way for fans to connect more deeply with the series and its captivating collection of characters."
Like on the show, dead housewife Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong), will supply the game's voiceover. The fact that The Sims is a huge hit with women probably had more than a little influence on Buena Vista's decision to green-light this project and certainly influenced the game's "lifestyle sim" style.
Part of me is very glad that April Fool's Day falls on a Saturday this year. That way, when something as crazy as this comes along I know it's real.
That's almost scarier.
