Dark Sector was one of the first announced Xbox 360 games when developer Digital Extremes showed it to EGM way back when. Well, the 360 has launched and Dark Sector has been in hiding. That all changes now as developer Digital Extremes and new publisher, D3 Publisher have announced the game will be released in Fall 2007. Yes you read that date right.

Currently in development for the Xbox 360, PC and "other next-generation consoles" (PS3), Dark Sector is a third-person shooter set in "a world where bio-weapons are no longer science experiments, but a hellish nightmare let loose on an unsuspecting populace."

Players take on the role of Hayden Tenno, the victim of one of these bio-weapons, who has now gained the ability "to morph into dramatically different combat forms".

"We are very fortunate based on our previous successes to be in a position of being selective with our business partners," commented James Schmalz, Digital Extremes founder. "D3Publisher impressed us with their commitment to publishing high quality next-generation games that exceed gamers' expectations, which we certainly expect to do with Dark Sector. We consider this game to be the culmination of the experience we have garnered over the years in creating cutting-edge entertainment and we are pleased to be working with them to bring Dark Sector to gamers around the world."

We'll have more on Dark Sector sometime in the two years between now and its scheduled releas date.
