News: The Revolution will come equipped with parental controls based on the ESRB.
Nintendo has announced that the Revolution will come with a parental control system that will player's access to games based on the ESRB system.
Password protected locks can be placed on Everyone, Everyone 10+, Teen and Mature rated titles. I guess Nintendo has no plans to authorize an Adults Only game this generation. Aww shucks.
Ratings are passed to the Revolution when the disc is first loaded into the system.
The ESRB began in 1994 as a response to politicians rattling the "violent video games" sabre. Nintendo did not specify how this parental lock would work with unrated NES and Super NES games with the Virtual Console download service.
"Even though many Nintendo games are rated E, E10+ or T, we believe this kind of feature should be included in the hardware. It's the right thing to do," explains Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing. "Game ratings are on the front and back of every game package, so families can easily make a decision about whether a game is right for them."
