First Impressions: Now with 100% more turtle.
When Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles released last fall, there were a lot of game players that were struck by a wonderful case of Deja Vu. Memories of afternoons spent jacking quarter after quarter into arcade machines were evoked by Konami's brilliant console title. I'll admit that while I loved the game, it was by no means perfect. Perhaps my opinion of the game is clouded by the memories of the original arcade classic. Perhaps I'm just a little bit bent in the head. Either way, Konami is bringing us more of everything in this year's sequel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus.
At it's heart, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 is going to be more of everything that we loved in TMNT. First off, the wonderfully cel-shaded graphics capture the look of Fox's Saturday morning cartoon perfectly. Second, the show's voice actors perfectly capture their small screen persona's for the video game. Third, and most important for us video game fanatics, TMNT2 will bring us even more of the butt-kicking arcade action that we know and love.
Fortunately, it seems that Konami knows how to handle a sequel as they have taken the major complaints of the original and addressed them specifically. Anyone that played Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on either the GameCube, Xbox or PS2 noticed that, while it was enjoyable, the game got a little bit repetitive. Okay. A lot repetitive. Fortunately, TMNT2: Battle Nexus, is bringing us more combo attacks than the original did. More than 30 of them to be precise.Of course nothing, and I mean nothing, can touch the fact that we are going to be getting full fledged four-player action with TMNT2. That's right. You and three friends will be able to combat all sorts of ninja and mutant baddies together.
