First Impressions: You just can’t fail when you combine Sega with Football.
I would have to say that Sega’s NFL 2K series has definitely made a mark for itself as one of the best football games to ever cross any platform. However, they aren’t flawless, I thought that the past two NFL 2K games lacked in the AI department when compared to Madden. But don’t get me wrong, the AI isn’t exactly horrible, it still has the potential to become the greatest, and even knock Madden off of the throne, which is what Sega fans around the world are hoping for.
The major revision Visual Concepts has implemented into 2K2 is in the play engine. They have completely redone the plays, and have also given a facelift to the graphics for a little extra flair. The developer is also adding many new plays, additionally; each team is now getting more team specific plays. On the offensive side of the ball, Visual Concepts is planning to give the quarterbacks better strategies, plus, the AI is a little less predictable this time around.
You also won’t be able to spin and jump all the way down the field dodging tackles, now it takes a little more skill, as you have to time everything just right and use the proper move in the correct situation. On the other side of the ball, Visual concepts have added better grasping and tackling, making it more realistic to the defensive fanatics.
Visual Concepts has also revamped the games already stunning graphics. They could have gone and done what other game companies do, in that I mean using the same models year after year, cough** Madden**cough, but they’ve gone and redone every aspect of the graphics to make the game look even sweeter than last years version. New player animations have also been added; this includes QB passing, new tackles, and realistic stumbling. Of course, the game is set to include all the standard yearly updates, like the rosters, stadiums, and uniforms. Visual Concepts has one more surprise for football fans this year, with more commentary than any football game I have seen to date.
