News: We now know when you can get your hands on Sony’s newest virtual reality headset, as well as what you will have to pay to get it.

We have known about PlayStation VR2 for a while now but details were scarce. Sony has now given us the details on when we will be able to get their new VR device and, more importantly, what it is going to cost. There will be two configurations of the PSVR2 at launch with the base model costing $549.99 and a bundle that comes with Horizon Call of the Mountain going for $599.99. That is more than the PlayStation 5 console itself for those wondering.

PlayStation VR2 will be available on February 22, 2023. If you are interested in trying to secure a pre-order, you can register right now for the opportunity when pre-orders open on November 15th. If you want to register your interest in pre-ordering a unit, you can do so on the PlayStation Direct website.

Now for the details on what you will receive with each PSVR2 bundle:

PlayStation VR2 Base Bundle - $549.99 / €599.99 / £529.99 / ¥74,980 recommended retail price (including tax for GBP, EUR, and JPY)

  • PlayStation VR2 Headset

  • PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers

  • Stereo Headphones

  • PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain Bundle - $599.99 / €649.99 / £569.99 / ¥79,980 recommended retail price (including tax for GBP, EUR, and JPY)

  • PlayStation VR2 Headset

  • PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers

  • Stereo Headphones

  • Horizon Call of The Mountain - Voucher code for PlayStation Store

  • Sony has also revealed that standalone games will be available for pre-order this month as well. During the initial launch window gamers in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg will be able to pre-order PlayStation VR2 solely through PlayStation’s online store. If you are able to place an order there, your item will be shipped throughout the launch week. If you live in a market that wasn’t listed, PlayStation VR2 pre-orders will be available at participating retailers beginning on November 15.

The PSVR2 Sense Technology includes features that enable unique gameplay experiences, such as headset feedback, eye tracking, 3D audio, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback from the PS VR2 Sense controllers. The headset will have high-fidelity visuals in 4000 x 2040 HDR video format (2000 x 2040 per eye). Compared to the original PlayStation VR headset the PSVR2 will be slightly slimmer and lighter which is great news for extended sessions.

In case you are wondering about the specifications for the upcoming PlayStation VR2 unit they are below:

  • Display Method: OLED

  • Panel Resolution: 2000 x 2040 per eye

  • Panel Refresh Rate: 90Hz, 120Hz

  • Lens Separation: Adjustable

  • Field of View: Approximately 110 degrees

  • Sensors: Motion Sensor - Six-axis motion sensing system (three-axis gyroscope, three-axis accelerometer), Attachment Sensor - IR Proximity sensor

  • Cameras: Four cameras for headset and controller tracking, IR camera for eye tracking per eye

  • Feedback: Vibration on headset

  • Communication With PS5: USB Type-C

  • Audio: Input - Built-in Microphone, Output - Stereo Headphone Jack

  • What do you think about the price of the PlayStation VR2? It also needs to be noted that the PSVR2 is not backward compatible with PSVR1 so the library you built for Sony’s original VR unit can not be used here. Will you pre-ordering on November 15th or wait until it gets closer to launch? If you are planning on picking up a unit, what is the first game you will get for the PlayStation VR2?
