News: Check out this unique spin on a roguelike where the location of your items is just as important as the items themselves.

”Backpack

Backpack Hero is getting ready to enter early access in a few weeks. In Backpack Hero you will jump into dungeons and horde epic loot but you need to keep it organized in this inventory management roguelike. Starting August 15th, players that pick up the game will be able to enjoy brand new features including two new characters, a handful of cool new items, weapons and more.

Players take on the role of a brave adventurer exploring vast dungeons, picking up piles of loot, and taking on dangerous foes with only what they can fit in their backpacks. Thankfully these heroes are equipped with an impressive skill - inventory management. Depending on where players put items in their backpacks, placement can alter its effectiveness. Some items when placed adjacent to pieces of armor will boost the amount of shield players receive from that armor. Other items gain added bonuses when they have empty spaces below or above them.

Not only does placement alter the game but some items will have their own status effects and abilities. For example, certain weapons might give enemies poison or slowness. Players may find food that can heal them multiple times or they might even be given a dangerous item by an enemy that takes up precious room in their inventory. Gathering the best items for the journey, strategizing their location, and managing it all in battle is key to making it out of the dungeon alive.

Backpack Hero’s Early Access version has some brand new features for players to enjoy. The stone walls of the dungeons might look a little different and players can expect some brand new items, weapons, and enemies. Plus, new players will have access to the game’s two new characters - Tote the Frog and CR-8 the Robot.

Some of the key features Include:

  • Hundreds of Items: Each item has its own unique effect and, depending on where you place it in your backpack, can be powerful when used in the arrangement.

  • Multiple fun characters: Adventure through the dungeons as Purse the Packrat, Tote the Toad or CR8 the Robot.

  • 40+ Enemies to Battle: Test your mettle and your organizational skills against powerful enemies small to large to everything in between.

  • Endless Dungeons to Explore: Randomly generated dungeons means that not a single playthrough will be exactly like the last.

  • Backpack Hero is launching into Early Access on August 15th. Take a look at the trailer and then tell us what you think.
