PlayStation 5’s release date and price have finally been revealed by Sony. They just held their PS5 Showcase where they finally told us what we wanted to hear. The PS5 will be available for $499 for the standard version and $399 for the all digital version. As far as the release dates are concerned there are two dates to keep in mind, depending on where you live. The release dates are as follows:
November 12
United States
Canada
Mexico
Japan
Australia
New Zealand
South Korea
November 19
Europe
Middle East
South America
Asia
South Africa
”The Rest of the World”
As I mentioned above, the standard PlayStation 5 unit will be $499.99/¥49,980/€499.99/£449.99. The all digital PlayStation will cost $399.99/¥39,980/€399.99/£359.99. The major difference between the two models is that the all-digital version will not have an optical drive. That means that you can’t watch 4K blu rays on it, however, it should still be able to stream from services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc.
The big question now remains as to when we can place our pre-order. Sony failed to mention this during their showcase but followed up on Twitter a little later. Pre-orders will be available “as early as tomorrow” at select retailers. I assume the “select retailers” means Best Buy, Amazon, GameStop, Target, Walmart, and places like that. As for the time these pre-orders will go live, no one seems to know and Sony isn’t telling us.
In the meantime, the launch lineup for the PS5 seems to have been revealed as well. It also appears that games will in fact be getting more expensive for the next generation of consoles. The launch day list from SIE Worldwide Studios includes the following titles:
Astro’s Playroom (Japan Studio) - Pre-installed on PS5
Destruction All Stars (Lucid Games / XDEV) - US$69.99/¥7,900/€79.99 (RRP)
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (Insomniac) - US$49.99/¥5,900/€59.99 (RRP)
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition (Insomniac) - US$69.99/¥7,900/€79.99 (RRP)
Sackboy A Big Adventure (Sumo Digital / XDEV) - US$59.99/¥6,900/€69.99 (RRP)
Sony also revealed a new perk that PlayStation Plus members will receive on PlayStation Plus. When you watch the video talking about this new feature you get the sense that it is a Game Pass-lite type of service. A number of PS4 titles will be available to download and play for free on your PlayStation 5. Titles like God of War, inFamous: Second Son, The Last of Us Remastered, Bloodborne, Detroit: Become Human, Mortal Kombat X, Persona 5, and more.
What do you think about all of this new information? Do you plan on trying to get a PlayStation 5 pre-order? If so, what model are you getting? Tell us in the comments section below.
