News: MLB: The Show is set to appear on “additional consoles” allowing even more people to play this great title from Sony.
One of the big console exclusives that Sony has every year is MLB: The Show. It is an incredible baseball title and by far the best one on the market. Neither Nintendo nor Microsoft have a baseball game on that level...yet. It was just recently revealed by Major League Baseball that the MLB, the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), Sony Interactive Entertainment, and Sony’s San Diego Studio have entered into multi-year extensions to continue the franchise, MLB: The Show.
Here is where things get more interesting though. On MLB’s website they stated:
“In addition, the historic expansion of the long-standing partnerships will bring MLB The Show, for the first time ever, to additional console platforms beyond PlayStation platforms as early as 2021. Complete details will be announced at a later date.”
While no official announcement has been released one has to assume that “additional console platforms” include the next-generation Xbox and potentially the Nintendo Switch as well. Phil Spencer jumped into the fray with a cryptic Tweet that stated:
”Great to see the game is coming to more players.”
Now again, nothing is official (or at least not confirmed publicly) but it appears that Xbox gamers who have been waiting years for an AAA baseball title might finally get their wish in the form of Sony’s annual franchise. For me personally, this potential news is exciting as I have friends that are big baseball fans but they only have an Xbox One. If they can get MLB: The Show on the next-generation Xbox that would be massive.
PlayStation gamers have some Microsoft Studios titles in their library with the biggest example probably being Minecraft. Xbox gamers really haven’t seen many PlayStation titles though although perhaps this is a sign of that changing. Or maybe it will just be a one-off with MLB: The Show. In either event, it is exciting news for baseball fans and should be exciting news for the developers as well as more people will get to enjoy their game.
What do you think about this development? Once again, this is in the rumor category right now but with them saying “additional console platforms” it makes complete sense. Would you play MLB: The Show on either Xbox One or Switch?
