Remedy has acquired the rights to the Alan Wake franchise according to Eurogamer. You might remember that Alan Wake was originally released on the Xbox 360 and later on had a short spinoff with Alan Wake’s American Nightmare. Alan Wake has developed a cult following over the years with fans wondering if they would ever see a proper sequel to, especially with the ambiguous nature of the ending we witnessed. There appeared to be hope when Quantum Break was released on Xbox One and there was a teaser trailer for what appeared to be the next game in the Alan Wake franchise, and then, of course, the plethora of Alan Wake references in the game itself.
For those of you who might not be familiar with Alan Wake, the premise is below:
”Alan Wake tells the story of a best-selling writer suffering from writer’s block. He goes on vacation to the small town of Bright Falls with his wife, Alice, to gain back his creative flow. Shortly upon arrival, Wake finds himself trapped in a nightmare when his wife mysteriously goes missing. He keeps finding pages of a manuscript he apparently wrote, but can’t remember writing. The manuscript is coming true. An involving psychological action thriller, Alan Wake raises the bar in storytelling and creating a suspenseful cinematic experience.”
With Remedy now retaining full control over the franchise the chances of Alan Wake making a return has never been higher, and it might be on multiple platforms this time around. Rumors currently abound of a remaster hitting both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and maybe even the Switch. Of course, Remedy is busy finishing up Control which is set for release in August but once they are done with that, could we see a return of Alan Wake?
So with that said, would you buy a Alan Wake remaster if it was released for the current generation of consoles? If we ever see Alan Wake 2 it will presumably be released on next-generation hardware. Do you want to return to the world of Alan Wake? Tell us what you think below.
