Earlier this year at E3 Microsoft revealed that backwards compatibility for original Xbox games was going to be released this fall. It appears that time has arrived as Microsoft has now revealed that 13 original Xbox games will be available beginning tomorrow, October 24. It should be quickly noted that not every original Xbox game will be a part of this program. We also don’t know how frequently the list will be updated. With that said though, here are the first games taking part in the original Xbox backwards compatibility program:
Black
BloodRayne 2
Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
Dead to Rights
Fuzion Frenzy
Grabbed by the Ghoulies
King of Fighters Neowave
Ninja Gaiden Black
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Psychonauts
Red Faction II
Sid Meier’s Pirates!
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
In addition to original Xbox games arriving on Xbox One, Microsoft has also revealed that there will be some Xbox 360 games that will be enhanced for Xbox One X. Beginning on November 7 when Xbox One X launches, you will be able to run select titles at higher resolution, 9X the original pixel count and with expanded color details. This is done utilizing the Heutchy Method which utilizes the power of the Xbox One X to allow the Xbox 360 emulator to present the best possible version of the game, all without touching the game code. Here are the first four Xbox 360 games that will be participating in the Enhanced for Xbox One X program:
Assassin’s Creed
Fallout 3
Halo 3
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
According to Microsoft gamers have spent more than 700 million hours utilizing the backwards compatibility feature and playing Xbox 360 games on Xbox One. Now you can add some original Xbox titles to the mix such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and that number is sure to shoot up.
