News: Earlier today it was revealed that the Xbox One can now play over 300 Xbox 360 games and it was the BioShock games that hit that milestone.
Phil Spencer has just revealed that approximately 13 months after backwards compatibility was launched on Xbox One there are now over 300 Xbox 360 games that are playable on Xbox One. Phil also mentioned a pretty interesting statistic that nearly 50% of Xbox One gamers use the backwards compatibility feature to play Xbox 360 games.
In addition to that announcement Major Nelson also revealed that BioShock, BioShock 2 and BioShock Infinite are now backwards compatible on the Xbox One. These were the games that caused the backwards compatibility library to hit the 300 milestone and they work like any other game that is backwards compatible. If you own the digital version then these games should be in your “Ready to Install” list right now and you can begin downloading them immediately. If you own the disc version you can simply put that disc into the Xbox One and start the install. The system will ping the Xbox Live servers and prompt you to download an update. That update is in fact the game itself. Even though you are downloading the game you will still need the disc in the drive for verification purposes. Of course if you buy the digital version later on then you will no longer need the disc in the console.
The BioShock Collection was also released a little earlier this year with all three games getting the remastered treatment. Keep in mind that in the BioShock Collection you get all of the DLC that was released for all three games whereas with the backwards compatible versions you will only get the DLC you have purchased.
What do you think about there now being over 300 games that are backwards compatible on Xbox One? Last year around this time there was barely over 100 titles available. Do you think at this time there will be close to 500 games that use this feature? Tell us what you think below.
