Some more Nintendo Switch rumors have just come out and if they turn out to be true it could be pretty awesome. Eurogamer is reporting that not only will the Nintendo Switch feature the Virtual Console, Gamecube games will be a part of that Virtual Console. According to three different sources that spoke to Eurogamer, there are three Nintendo Gamecube games already up and running on the Nintendo Switch. These three games include Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi’s Mansion and Super Smash Bros. Melee.
In addition to Gamecube games reportedly being a part of the Switch’s Virtual Console service, there also appears to be a nice upgrade program similar to what we saw when we went from the Wii to the Wii U. For those who aren’t familiar with that program it was a really nice way of getting getting the Wii U Virtual Console version at a fraction of the price if you bought them on the Wii. For example, if you bought The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on the Wii Virtual Console and then wanted to buy it again on the Wii U Virtual console you only had to pay $1.50 for the game instead of having to pay full price all over again. It appears that might be the case with the Nintendo Switch as well which would be great. It would definitely be nice if there wasn’t an upgrade fee at all but I don’t know how realistic that is considering there is work being done to get these games up and running on the Switch. Eurogamer also stated that Animal Crossing on the Gamecube is reportedly being worked on as well, which included NES roms in the game.
If you aren’t familiar with these games I have provided a trailer for each one below. Please keep in mind that these trailers were released during the Gamecube era so they won’t be in high definition. It will obviously look much better on the Switch.
