World of Final Fantasy is now available from Square. I went and picked up my Day One Limited Edition at Gamestop and when I got it home I noticed something very interesting. I went to input the code for the Day One DLC into the PlayStation Store and once I did I was stunned to find out I owned the digital version. I purchased the physical version at Gamestop but when I got home I saw that the Day One DLC code gave me the digital version as well, in addition to the Day One DLC. This wasn’t an advertised feature and you have to wonder who is to blame for this screw up. I’m leaning towards Sony on this one only because the platformer holder controls the codes. Sony controls the codes that are used on the PlayStation Network, Microsoft controls the codes that are used on Xbox Live and Nintendo controls the codes that are on the eShop.
When someone was generating these codes and setting this up they must have accidentally included the digital version as well. As you can see in the pictures embedded in this article I put in the code for the Day One DLC and it said I had over 9 gigs worth of content to download. That seemed way too high for what was being offered as part of the DLC so I looked closer and it was indeed the full game. I then went to the PlayStation Store on the web and it says I can download it to my PS4, indicating and solidifying the fact that I now own both the physical and digital version of World of Final Fantasy on PS4.
I’m sure some people are reading this and probably thinking they can get a code from a friend who bought World of Final Fantasy so that they don’t have to buy it. That isn’t going to work though as the digital version is tied in with the DLC. If your friend gives you the code he gives you the game and the DLC and he or she probably purchased the game now for that free DLC so I can’t see them parting with it. Maybe I am wrong though.
World of Final Fantasy is being released on both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation Vita. I just bought the PlayStation 4 version so I have no idea if this works on the Vita version as well. Additionally, this is for the U.S. version. I'm not sure if this will apply to other areas. Do you have any plans on purchasing World of Final Fantasy?
