Call of Duty 3 is now available to play on Xbox One via backwards compatibility. Microsoft announced this earlier today, adding another Call of Duty game to the ever growing backwards compatibility library. It wasn’t too long ago that they also added Call of Duty 2 to the BC library so, hopefully, we will eventually get all of the Call of Duty titles playable on the Xbox One.
Call of Duty 3 was the follow up to one of the biggest launch games to come out for the Xbox 360 and PC. It delivered the intensity of being closer than ever to the fury of combat during the Normandy Breakout, the historic campaign that made the liberation of Paris possible and brought the Allies a step closer to Berlin. This was also Treyarch’s first game in the Call of Duty franchise so if you haven’t had a chance to play it yet you definitely should to get an appreciation for where they started and where they are today.
Call of Duty 3 featured branching mission paths that allowed players to decide how to confront the enemy. You could choose to flank an opponent or attack him directly. Call of Duty 3 also allowed you to destroy soft cover enemy hideouts which would force the opposition into the open. Back when it was originally released these were pretty cool features. Additionally the online multiplayer for Call of Duty 3 works as well. Before writing up this story I jumped on and found a game really quickly and my team ended up winning. It is impressive that the online is still up and running and that I found other players to compete with.
If you own Call of Duty 3 digitally then all you have to do is go to your ‘Ready to Install’ section in My Games & Apps and click install. If you own the physical copy of Call of Duty 3 then you have to put your Xbox 360 disc into your Xbox One. Once you do that click on the disc to install like you do for Xbox One games. After doing that you will be prompted to download an “update,” which is basically just the digital version of the game. If you install Call of Duty 3 this way though you will need the disc in the drive everytime you want to play it for verification purposes. Obviously if you own the digital license then you don’t need the disc.
Check out the trailer below for Call of Duty 3 and tell us what you think. Do you plan on going back and playing it? If you missed out on it when it was released, will you go back and play it for the first time?
