Call of Duty 2 is now available on Xbox One. Microsoft has just added the first Call of Duty game to be on the Xbox 360 to the backwards compatible list on Xbox One. In doing so it appears that Call of Duty 2 on the Xbox One runs significantly better than on Xbox 360. The Xbox One is obviously a more powerful piece of hardware and backwards compatibility wasn’t theoretically supposed to really improve Xbox 360 games but we have now seen some that actually has improved on the Xbox One with the two most recent examples being Red Dead Redemption and now Call of Duty 2.
Digital Foundry has released a video (see below) comparing Call of Duty 2 on the Xbox 360 to how it runs on Xbox One. The frame rate on the Xbox One is almost always at 60pfs when playing Call of Duty 2 while on the 360 there were times where it would fluctuate between 60 and 30fps if there was a lot of action on the screen. Call of Duty 2 is set during World War 2 and helped launch the franchise on consoles.
If you own the digital version of Call of Duty 2 on Xbox 360 then all you have to do to install this game is go into “My Games and Apps” go down to “Ready to Install” and then install the game. If you own the disc version then put the disc in the Xbox One and wait a few moments for it to spin up. Once it goes install it like you would a game on Xbox One. Once you do that it will ping the Xbox Live servers and ask you to download an update for the game. This “update” is actually the game itself but you will need to have the disc in the console for verification purposes if you install using a game disc.
Take a look at the video below (courtesy of Digital Foundry) and tell us what you think. Will you go through Call of Duty 2 again now that the experience is better on Xbox One?
