Gears of War Franchise Backwards Compatible Codes Being Sent Out

News: Check the inbox on your console to see if you have received your Gears of War codes yet.

Microsoft revealed earlier in the year that if you purchased Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and played online before December 31, 2015 that you would receive the entire franchise for free via the Xbox One backwards compatibility feature. Codes have started rolling out earlier than expected and are now showing up as a message from Xbox Live on your console. You will get four separate with each code representing one of the games. I really like this approach as it allows you to give the Gears of War 3 code away in case you already own it.

Once you receive your code and you download the Gears of War franchise you will be able to do everything you did on the Xbox 360, including online multiplayer. You can play with people who are either playing Gears of via backwards compatibility on Xbox One or on Xbox 360. The two platforms will be able to “talk” to one another to allow this to happen.

If you have DLC from previous Gears games they should be available to download as well once these Gears of War games become available. There is currently no way for you to purchase anything as it relates to Xbox 360 games or content on Xbox One so you will need to buy Xbox 360 items either on xbox.com or on an actual Xbox 360.

So if you haven’t checked the messages on your console in a little while I would check now to see if you have any codes waiting for you. The codes are being sent out in waves so if you don’t have a code right now then you should get one in the near future. Once you download the games which one will you play first?
