News: Sony has released their newest firmware that brings in a host of social media features along with more cloud storage.
PS4 firmware 3.0 is now live so if you haven’t turned on your PlayStation 4 yet today then you can expect to see the new firmware either already installed or downloaded and ready for you to start the installation. This firmware upgrade brings in a bunch of new social media functionality, more space for your cloud saves, stickers and more. Sadly the features that are requested the most are still absent but what it is there seems to be functioning pretty well. Some of the new features for firmware 3.0 include:
More Cloud Storage
When the PS4 launched it had a paltry 1gb of online storage for your cloud saves. That didn’t last long for some people, especially if you play sports games that had save files over 700 megs. With this new firmware you now have 10gb of online storage so this should hopefully no longer be an issue for anyone.
Youtube Live
You will now be able to livestream your gameplay on Youtube which will be viewable anywhere whether it be on other PS4 consoles, the Youtube Gaming mobile app and Youtube.com.
Communities
With this update you can now create a community based around things you like, such as your favorite video game. These new communities will include a message board for general discussion with other members of the community, being able to share screenshots, being able to join parties and/or games with other community members and more.
Sharing Video Clips to Twitter
You can now share your favorite moments to your Twitter followers but the longest a video can be is 10 seconds. You will have the ability to trim longer video clips though.
Request to Watch Gameplay
Say for example your best friend is going through a raid on Destiny. You can now send a Request to Watch notification to your friend and if he approves it you can then watch him as he goes through the raid.
There are some more features included in firmware 3.0 but those are probably the ones that will be the most popular and widely used. What would you like to see Sony add in a future update? Organizational options? Folders like we had on PS3? Tell us what you think below.
