News: Sony has revealed that the next PS4 firmware update will be arriving soon with some features gamers have wanting for a while.

PlayStation 4

PS4 firmware update 1.70 is “coming soon” according to Sony and will be bringing with it some features that gamers have been wanting since the launch of the console. The PlayStation Blog states that this will be a significant update and they have revealed a few items to whet your appetite. Among other things, PS4 firmware update 1.70 will bring:

SHAREfactory

This new update will bring SHAREfactory. This is Sony’s new rich video editor app for the PS4 that makes it easy for you to customize your gameplay videos. You can now easily combine your captured clips for editing and personalize them how you see fit whether it be using transitions, filters or whatever and share them with your friends and various social networks. You will also be able to add stickers, text and a set of included audio tracks as well as video commentary with picture-in-picture capability if you have the PlayStation Camera. Finally, it will allow you to import your original music to add to the custom soundtrack for your video.

Take your shared videos anywhere

Once you have finished your video in SHAREfactory you can easily share your videos to Facebook or export them to an external USB storage device to upload them elsewhere, such as Youtube. Other “share” enhancements will allow you to change the recording time of your videos to shorter increments, the ability to change who you share your clips with on the SHARE screen and the removal of default saves for screenshots and video clips.

Removing HDCP

As we were beginning to learn more and more about the PS4 last year there was a segment of gamers that were unhappy with the PS4’s HDCP protection. Sony promised they would rectify the problem when they could and it appears that this firmware update will do just that. The 1.70 update will allow you to switch off HDCP, enabling you to capture video directly from your HDMI output so you can use external capture devices, such as the El Gato Came Capture HD.

Pre-Load Pre-Ordered PS4 Games

One feature that console gamers have been requesting for this new generation of consoles has been the ability to pre-load games before they are released like their PC gaming counterparts are able to do. With PS4 firmware update 1.70 that will now be possible. This will allow you to pre-download your select pre-ordered game up to several days prior to release. Even better news is if you happen to have the auto download feature enabled on your PS4, it will automatically pre-download your pre-ordered game so you can play as soon as the same is unlocked on release day.

According to Sony there is more that will be involved with this new update and this is just a “sneak peek” into what will be there. What other items and/or features would you like to see in PS4 firmware update 1.70? Tell us what you think below.
