PS3, PC gameplay video: The five maps of CoD: Black Ops Annihilation are making their way to the PS3 and PC at the end of the month after first appearing on Xbox 360.
CoD: Black Ops Annihilation map pack PS3, PC trailer video is below
Get ready to destroy, obliterate and annihilate on the five new Call of Duty: Black Ops DLC maps for PS3 and the PC. The Annihilation map pack first appeared on Xbox 360 on June 28, but Microsoft's month-long window of exclusivity is about to end, meaning that everyone who is not an Xbox 360 owner will be able to download the $15 map pack on July 28.
As demonstrated in the trailer below, Black Ops Annihilation is comprised of four new multiplayer maps and one additional Zombie level:
For all of the conspiracy theorists out there, the first map in the pack is Hanger 18, a medium-sized map based on Nevada's Area 51. With a centrally located hanger and four main paths leading to that point, this is a teamwork-focused map. It's essential to communicate so that you and your buddies can control the close-quarter areas within the hanger. What makes the heart of this tight-knit map different from the rest of the pack is the Easter eggs that pay homage to the super secret military base and the people who dedicate their lives to imagining what really goes on out in the desert.
Silo takes place on a Russian construction site that has - you guessed it - nuclear missiles underneath its dirt. By contrast to Hanger 18, this is a much larger map, featuring lots of interconnecting paths that will leave you prone to snipers at every turn. In effect, players who keep moving and learn the ins and outs of this plus-sized will survive more than their camping comrades.
The Drive-In map takes a lot of cues from CoD Black Ops' most popular disc-based map, Nuke Town. As long as you like fast-paced gun battles, it's small scale and iconic architecture from 1950s America make it the most fun of the collection.
Treyarch, the developer behind this game as well as 2008's CoD: World at War, decided to bring back the Cliffside. Only now, the location has been reimagined as a golf course, hence the new name, Hazard. It still takes place on the cliff sides, in this game it's now in Cuba to fit the Cold War theme, so long-range gunners have a distinct advantage on the fairway. Running on the green if you're not a able-bodied sniper is not recommended.
Finally, if yesterday's end to the Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta on PS3 has you depressed, there is an exotic jungle location where battles range on. Shangri-La features a tropical map setting with zombies (even zombies like to take summer vacations in the tropics, apparently). Like a scene out of Raiders of the Lost Ark, this exotic, shrine-filled map is full of treasure as well as traps.
