Film and video games. It’s like a match made in heaven. Both multi-billion dollar industries, as well as some of the largest entertainment medians in the world. It seems that nowadays, all of the high-budget films that appeal to a younger audience have a video game out of some sort; some good, some not-so-good. Although it’s a relatively new concept, games based on movies and vice versa are becoming higher quality as time goes by, since publishers have been taught that you can’t simply slap a label on a product and suspect welcoming feedback, even though it might sell by the shelf. Ubi Soft and Neko Entertainment look to continue the trend with their upcoming action/adventure title, Charlie’s Angels.

The game is based off of the 2000 film, and is planned to come out just after the release of the Charlie’s Angels sequel, Full Throttle. The game stars the classic trio Natalie, Dylan, and Alex as well as their chief, Bosley. Even better is that the film actors Cameron Diaz, Lucy Lui, Drew Barrymore and Bernie Mac will be doing all the voice acting for the game (meaning no stinky imitators).

One of the best things about the Charlie’s Angels game is that it will be played out much like the TV show and movie. You’re sent on varying missions by Bosley in order to fight crime, defeat evildoing foes, and thwart enemies – after all, you’re the world’s greatest secret weapon. The storyline behind Charlie’s Angels is that it’s your objective to stop a wicked mastermind who’s attempting to steal the world’s most precious monuments one after another (forget logic, this is a catastrophe!). The police are baffled, citizens in fear, and the thieves are not leaving a single trace. This calls for the Angels, and the plot will send you through six immerse missions that will bring you to many different locals around the world including such places as Mexico, Alaska, California and Scotland.

Of course, you’re not going to be able to beat up anyone without some combat. Charlie’s Angels will utilize different forms of action such as stealth espionage, acrobatic martial arts attacks, going incognito and simply busting a cap in your foe’s booty. There’s also plenty to go around with the 32 different types of enemies with varying fighting styles and weapons.

Neko Entertainment is elaborating on the fundamental combat by adding other things such as the ever-popular slow-motion fighting that we first saw in films such as The Matrix and later in games like Max Payne and Dead to Rights. Giving the game a movie-like presentation will indeed blur the line between movie and cinema. Furthermore, the player will be able to instantly switch between each of the three Angels on every mission. How you perform with each character will effect how the other two perform in their duties as well, meaning there will be an added element of strategy instead of typical beat ‘em up skirmishes.

Final Thoughts
Charlie’s Angels has all the right tools – an entertaining story, pretty graphics, fun gameplay, and best of all a large fanbase who are willing to buy the title. Like mentioned in the beginning, we’re seeing more and more games based on movies, and one by one they’re becoming better and more complete. Hopefully, Neko Entertainment will learn from past experiments and deal out something really worth playing.
