News: Get Nintendo's handheld for $20 cheaper starting September 12.
With the 3DS less than six months away (although no one knows exactly how far away it is), Nintendo has announced a price drop for the DSi and DSi XL. The price of a DSi will drop from $169.99 to $149.99 while the extra large DSi XL will see its price shrunk from $189.99 to $169.99. The new prices go into effect on September 12, three days before the company plans to make a major 3DS announcement.
This move is likely due to Nintendo hoping to wring one last Christmas of huge sales out of their fading handheld line. But they are also looking to get gamers hooked on the system's 1,300 games before they make the jump to the 3DS.
"We know shoppers want to get the maximum value out of every dollar they spend," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "Our new Nintendo DSi prices make it easier than ever for consumers to access the tremendous variety of games, applications and social tools on the Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL systems."
We'll have more soon.
