News: Well, the name 'Pandemic Studios' will be used on the next Mercenaries game.
Electronic Arts officially closed Pandemic Studios a week ago, laying off a majority of the company's employees and shifting the remaining developers to EA Los Angeles. Now, EA has announced that those developers were working on a new Mercenaries game at the time of Pandemic's closure and, rather than be canceled, it will shift to EA LA with them.
Titled
Mercs Inc, the game will be released under the "Pandemic Studios", but EA is not ready to talk specifics just yet. In fact, EA is only confirming the game's existance because of a leaked video posted on
bitmob yesterday. According to the demo footage, Mercs Inc will be a multiplayer take on the Mercenaries franchise. However, the video has since been removed from the site.
“We are very excited to announce a new instalment in the popular Mercenaries series because it demonstrates our continued commitment to Pandemic’s rich catalogue of intellectual properties,” said Nick Earl, Senior VP and Group General Manager at EA. “From the studio at EALA, a core creative team is forging new ground and conceptualizing new ideas for this exciting franchise.”
