News: Get ready to trade in your Master Sword for a Wii MotionPlus.

During a Nintendo Q&A on October 30, Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed that the next Legend of Zelda (currently scheduled for a 2010 release) will make extensive use of the Wii MotionPlus.

While the Q&A is currently archived on Nintendo of Japan's site, the Google Translation is a little unclear on exactly how Miyamoto plans to use the MotionPlus in Zelda. Thankfully, Chris Kohler of Wired Game|Life has a much clearer take on what he said:

УIn this (installment of the series), we're using MotionPlus to make you feel much more like you're actually fighting while holding a sword in your hand,Ф the Zelda creator said at a recent Q&A session in Tokyo.

MotionPlus will also be used to target things on screen in place of the Wii's infrared sensor, he said. УIn the previous game, you aimed at things by pointing at the screen, but this time we'll use MotionPlus to create a much more convenient targeting system and a more pleasurable playing experience.Ф

At E3, Miyamoto said that he wanted to make the Wii MotionPlus a required part of the next Legend of Zelda game. These comments seem to reinforce that idea that you'll need the dongle to experience Link's next adventure.

We'll have more soon.
