News: Infinity Ward's shooter has topped Halo 3's four million pre-orders... and it's not done yet!
Share N4G : News for Gamers

GameStop has informed the editors at USA Today's Game Hunters blog that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the most pre-ordered game ever in the company's history.

"By all indicators, we anticipate Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be the biggest entertainment launch of all time," says Tony Bartel, executive vice president for merchandising and marketing at GameStop. "As of today, the number of pre-order reservations we've taken for the game is the highest for any title we've ever sold in our 6,200 store network."

That is quite an accomplishment considering Halo 3 tallied over four million pre-orders for the game retailer back in 2007.

If purchasing the biggest game of the Fall from the evil empire that is GameStop doesn't appeal to you, other retailers have also revealed their pre-order and launch day plans for Modern Warfare 2.

Amazon is looking for "The Call of Duty-est Town in America" by tallying where each pre-order comes from. Once it has the winner, the company will donate a $5,000 gift card to a local charitible organization from the town with the most pre-orders. The page also contains some interesting sales data on Modern Warfare 2. As of right now, the Xbox 360 version is outselling the PS3 version by 2:1 and the PC version by 6:1.

Finally, Wal-Mart will be offering the game for sale at 12:01 AM at 2,600 of their 24-hour stores. And if you're one of the first people in line, each of those store will have 20 autographed copies of the game signed by the Infinity Ward development team.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released on November 10 and is already well on its way to surpassing the sales of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which has sold 13 million copies on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

We'll likely have a lot more on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 very soon.
