News: Now officially known as the DS, check out the final design inside.

Today, Nintendo unveiled the final design of the handheld they are now officially calling the DS.

"The Nintendo DS will change the future of hand-held gaming," says Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo Co., Ltd. "Dual screens, chat functions, a touch screen, wireless capabilities, voice recognition Ц these abilities surpass anything attempted before, and consumers will benefit from the creativity and innovation the new features bring to the world of video games."

The design of the DS has gone through a final retooling as the system itself has been made thinner and the buttons have been made larger for easier play. Stereo sound has also been made standard on the DS so gamers will always be able to play it loud. Finally, a storage slot for the stylus has been added to give the system that final push into PDA-land.

Nintendo has also uploaded some images of the final design and this is the logo that will be greeting you at your favorite game store in the near future:

The final design with the system open can be seen by clicking here and with the case closed by clicking here. Just a warning, these are large pictures, so 56K users beware.

Finally, Nintendo said that a price point, release date, and more game information would all be revealed at a later date.
