First Hunt Preview: It isn't often we bother previewing a demo...
Share N4G : News for Gamers

It isn't often that we bother previewing a demo, but not every demo takes gaming in a new direction. While it is unfortunate that Metroid Prime: Hunters will not be available at the system's launch next week, Nintendo is stepping up to the plate with a demo of their ingenious title that will lead the way for first person action titles on the DS portable system.

With a general look and feel that is culled directly from the successfully rejuvenated GameCube Metroid series, Metroid Prime: Hunters is stepping away from the traditional portable mold. When the DS launches next week, proud owners of the system will be treated to a demo of this groundbreaking title, affectionately titled: First Hunt. Adopting many of the gameplay elements that have made the GameCube series successful all but guarantees the game a successful release next May, but this demo will convince even the most skeptical players that this game is worth their money.

Even though Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt will limit you to only a few single player training modes, it shows of the systems touch screen capabilities very nicely. Nearly mimicking the keyboard and mouse control method that is favored by PC fps aficionados, First Hunt utilizes a combination of the d-pad and the touch screen to control Samus, replacing the mouse with the stylish stylus. The brief time that I was able to spend with the game revealed a very intuitive touch screen control scheme that allows for some extraordinarily precise aiming. This comes especially handy while engaged in wireless multiplayer combat as human targets always seem to find a way to be elusive.

Final Thoughts
First Hunt, the demo release of Metroid Prime: Hunters that is coming packaged with your new Nintendo DS, is a great example of what Nintendo has in mind for their groundbreaking handheld system. A unique blend of traditional and touch screen controls provides a fresh way to play with Samus. Couple that with the wireless multiplayer action and this game starts to enter the realm of heavenly. Nintendo is really showing their brilliance with the decision to bundle First Hunt with new DS systems.
