News: New versions are coming to the PS2, Wii and Xbox 360 as well.

E3 may be over, but there's still plenty of news and game announcements coming out of the big show. For example, Konami has announced they will be extending the Dance Dance Revolution series to the PlayStation 3 for the first time with a game simply titled Dance Dance Revolution. The game is scheduled to be released this Fall and is also coming to the PlayStation 2, Wii and Xbox 360.

For this version of Dance Dance Revolution, Konami has decided to change the entire way the game is played with the new Octo-Move mat for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. As you can imagine from the name, the Octo-Move mat will feature eight directional steps for a closer approximation of real dancing. In addition to a new controller, the game will include the option for players to upload their Xbox 360 or PlayStation Home Avatars for use in game. With all of these new modes, Konami also announced that old favorites Street Master Mode and Workout Mode would be returning.

In addition to the 50 songs that will be available on the disc, Konami has said players will be able to download new songs from the PSN and Xbox Live along with 150 classic songs from previous DDR games (presumably with new Octo-Move controls, but this was unconfirmed by Konami).

The Wii version of the game will be slightly different. It will not include the Octo-Move Mode, instead opting for a traditional four-way mat. However, Konami is including Wii Balance Board support (along with "hip", "roll" and "bump" arrows) in Workout Mode along with "punch" arrows for use with the Wii Remote. Mii support will also be included, as well a Lesson Mode dubbed "Dance Dance Revolution School."

All four versions of the game will include 30 licensed music tracks (along with 20 "Bemani Originals") such as...

  • Rihanna - Disturbia
  • Ne-Yo - Closer
  • Jordin Sparks - One Step At A Time
  • Bobby Brown - My Prerogative
  • Natasha Bedingfield - Pocketful of Sunshine

    We'll have more soon.
