News: Ubisoft says checkmate next year.

Ubisoft has announced they will be bringing the Chessmaster series to the Xbox Live Arcade and PSP next year.

Chessmaster Live is currently scheduled for a January 2008 release and will include a ton of great features (and I am very excited about Message Chess):

  • Hundreds of AI opponents to play in ELO-ranked matches
  • Voice-chat and LIVE Vision capabilities for head-to-head matches
  • New 3D chess sets inspired by luxury board designer, House of Staunton
  • Five original chess variants, including the all-new Message Chess option, which will allow players to engage in a match over the course of days, weeks or even months

Ubisoft had less to say about the PSP version, other than saying it will be released in Spring 2008.

    We'll have more soon.
