News: Sega goes the mascot sports game route.

Sega has decided to dip their toe into the mascot-based sports game waters that Nintendo has treaded very successfully with games like Mario Golf and Mario Strikers. Today, the company announced they will be bringing the Sumo Digital developed Sega Superstars Tennis to the PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and DS in early 2008.

Over fifteen popular Sega characters including Sonic the Hedgehog, AiAi (from Super Monkey Ball), Ulala (of Space Channel 5) and Amigo (from Samba De Amigo). Each character will have their skills and attributes. Characters will also have their own home court like Sonic's Green Hill Zone or Amigo's Carnival Park court.

The game will include the standard Exhibition and Tournament modes as well as other modes Sega is currently keeping under wraps. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will also include online play.

We'll have more on Sega Superstars Tennis soon.
