News: The gears are in motion for Midway's new wrestling franchise.
Last year, Midway revealed they had acquired the licenese to the upstart wrestlnig federation Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). The game, known as TNA Impact, was scheduled to come to current generation systems sometime in 2007. And then we waited.
Today, TNAwrestling.com revealed the game is still on track and that major development work has begun at Midway Los Angeles (the team behind Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks and Backyard Wrestling). Midway has also shifted development of the game to next-generation systems as well with an announcement that the game is coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360.
The news according to TNAwrestling.com:
"We know fans have been waiting for an update on the TNA video game Ц well, here it is! As of June 1, production has geared up in a major way for the future release. Midway Games will be meeting with AJ Styles and Samoa Joe in the upcoming weeks to brainstorm on ideas for gameplay, which is big news because AJ and Joe are hardcore gamers themselves. In addition, both Jeff Jarrett and AJ Styles will be traveling to Midway's studios in Los Angeles to begin the motion capture stage, with each star being fitting with hundreds of digital sensors. Both Styles and Jarrett will be the first characters designed, with many more to come in the upcoming months. TNAwrestling.com will post screen shots courtesy of Midway as they become available. According to Midway, the final game will be available for all new generation systems including Xbox 360 and Playstation 3."
We'll pin more info soon.
