Tchia Gameplay Trailer Unveiled at Epic Games Store Showcase

News: A new adventure was shown off that draws on the culture and folklore of New Caledonia for PlayStation and PC.

Tchia, a tropical, open-world adventure coming in early 2023 was revealed at the Epic Games Store Showcase. Tchia is from Bordeaux-based independent developer Awaceb and Kepler Interactive. It is currently being developed for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC.

The trailer showcases the game's soul-jumping mechanic, which lets you take control of any animal or object you can find to outwit your enemies or simply cruise the glorious tropical skies of a New Caledonia-inspired archipelago as a bird. In combat, pick up an oil lantern and chuck it into a group of enemies, or better yet, become the oil lantern and fling yourself forward before hopping into a nearby seagull to make a cunning escape. With over 30 playable animals and hundreds of objects to soul-jump into, Tchia turns the environment into the player's ultimate tool.

Tchia is a beautiful tale full of adventure and tenderness, nestled within a deep and emotional plot with a supernatural twist. You will take on the role of a smart and sweet ukulele-playing heroine named Tchia as she embarks on a touching adventure to defeat peculiar fabric creatures and save her father from Meavora, the tyrannical ruler of the archipelago.

Exploration is key in Tchia. Whether you are climbing the archipelago’s mountains, sailing through its lagoons, or rolling across its beaches as a coconut, you will find unique characters and gorgeous vistas around every corner. Tchia features free climbing on all surfaces, and you will be able to swim, run or glide wherever you want. By using soul-jumping, you can hop into the body of a nearby fish, bird, or even crab to get around Tchia’s island setting.

Tchia’s story is a rich experience full of heartfelt character interactions and grand moments. When her home is invaded by fabric creatures, Tchia is sent on a journey of self-discovery, where she learns about herself and her place within the world. Tchia’s story draws on Awaceb’s firsthand knowledge of the culture and folklore of New Caledonia, letting you experience a unique part of the world in an interactive, unforgettable tale. Over the course of your adventures, you will discover the folklore, myths, legends, and people of New Caledonia that inspired Tchia.
