It has been rumored for quite a while now but Sony and Naughty Dog have officially confirmed that a remake for The Last of Us is on the way. Not only that, it is arriving sooner than expected with a September 2, 2022 release date. The Last of Us Part 1 has been remade from the ground up for the PlayStation 5, taking advantage of the current generation of hardware and everything that comes with it.
The Last of Us was a beautiful looking game when it was originally released on the PlayStation 3 but this new PlayStation 5 version will be better by leaps and bounds. Naughty Dog has modernized the gameplay, improved the controls, and will offer more accessibility than the original had to offer. They have also implemented some newer technology such as the adaptive triggers on the Dual Sense, 3D Audio, and haptic feedback.
This remake is being helmed by Game Director Matthew Gallant and Creative Director Shaun Escayg. Matthew has been with Naughty Dog for a decade working on the original Last of Us game and Uncharted 4. Shaun also worked on the original Last of Us title and on Uncharted 4 as the Lead Cinematic Animator.
The most exciting tidbit about this announcement is for PC players when Naughty Dog revealed that The Last of Us Part 1 will be released on PlayStation 5 as well as PC. From what it sounded like the PlayStation 5 version will be released first, however, PC gamers will not have to wait long to play it themselves. No specific date was given for the PC version at this time.
