News: Some new content is now available for Dead Cells with a biome and more.

Motion Twin and Evil Empire released the latest free update for the award-winning Dead Cells today, Break the Bank, less than three months after the release of their third paid DLC, The Queen & The Sea. Sporting a whimsical but deadly optional new underground biome, The Bank, players can now choose to rack up money on their run by crushing foes and collecting an increased amount of loot as they tear their way past hordes of mobs, including three all-new enemy types. There are fantastic ways to spend your new gold, but also a bunch of stuff that will kick your ass and take it from you. But don’t worry - there are new gold-related weapons for this most lucrative part of the journey too.

Additionally, the companies confirmed more DLC is in the pipeline for the rest of 2022 and beyond. Steve Filby, CEO of Evil Empire said, “This update marks the beginning of a new era for Dead Cells. We have an array of content and ideas we are still creating on our side and it’s important to us to reassure fans who maybe thought after the last paid DLC that we were winding down on development. That is not the case, and we consider Update 28 still in the middle of the game’s lifecycle so there’s certainly more to come.”

The Bank and its treasures are unlocked after reaching The Hand of the King and will begin to appear randomly in transition rooms. Three new enemy types await you in The Bank: The Agitated Pickpocket wants your gold and has the claws to get it. The Gold Gorger seems easy enough early on, but it grows as it collects gold and once it reaches its final form - watch out! Lastly, the Gold Kamikaze is the same bat you know and love but this one drops way more money.

To assist your financial endeavors in The Bank, there are three golden new weapons in this update: Gold Digger gives gold on hits and provides a critical hit if you’re filthy rich. The deadly Dagger of Cupidity crits for three seconds after picking up gold, and lastly, the Money Shooter fires off gold but once you run out of gold you’re out of bullets.

The Bank also has two new bank-related outfits and three new mutations. Midas’ Blood gives you gold when you lose health, Gold Plating means you will lose gold, but not health, upon getting hit, and finally let’s Get Rich Quick - stack bonus gold by killing enemies while you have a speed boost and cash in when it ends.

The Bank offers a few different versatile ways to complete your run, including taking out a loan at the start of the run but you’ll need to pay it back at the end, so take care to make sure you don’t finish with empty pockets.

Alongside the new content in The Bank, the update provides several new quality of life enhancements including that items dropped after Boss fights now have +1 item level, so there are no more unsatisfying boss kills

For those not familiar with Dead Cells, it is a critically-acclaimed roguelike Metroidvania action-platformer set within an unpredictable castle packed with dark secrets, game-changing items, and hordes of deadly beasts. Players face tough risk-reward decisions, building their loadout from an incredibly diverse arsenal of weapons and abilities in the hopes of dodging the castle’s omnipresent threat of permadeath. A steady series of post-launch updates addressing fan feedback has evolved Dead Cells, keeping its action-centric adventure as surprising as it is rewarding.
