News: Nintendo dominates the list alongside other popular franchises such as Call of Duty.

NPD Top 20

The popularity of video games continues to grow by leaps and bounds and was one of the main resources for entertainment people have used during the pandemic. The NPD recently released their figures for the month of July 2021 of what games sold the best during that hot summer month. There aren’t any surprises but it is nice data to have regardless.

The Top 20 selling games in the United States for July 2021 include the following:

    1. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - Nintendo (*)

    2. Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War - Activision

    3. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin - Capcom

    4. Mario Kart 8 - Nintendo (*)

    5. Minecraft - Microsoft

    6. Mario Golf: Super Rush - Nintendo (*)

    7. MLB The Show 21 - Sony

    8. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales - Sony

    9. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) - Activision

    10. Super Smash Bros Ultimate - Nintendo (*)

    11. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart - Sony

    12. Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo (*)

    13. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1&2 - Activision

    14. Super Mario 3D World - Nintendo (*)

    15. Mortal Kombat 11 - Warner Bros

    16. Neo: The World Ends With You - Square Enix

    17. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo (*)

    18. Pokemon: Sword/Shield - Nintendo (*)

    19. Resident Evil: Village - Capcom

    20. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla - Ubisoft

Please note that the Nintendo games on this list do not include digital sales, which is why they have the special “(*)” notation. With digital game purchases becoming more and more common, I think it is safe to assume that Nintendo’s titles did much better than this list suggests, even with them having the #1 selling game of the month.

What do you think of this list? What do you think the August list will look like?
