News: You will get to spend the summer on the virtual golf course with Mario and all of his Mushroom Kingdom friends.

”Mario

We have learned that Mario is quite the athlete over the years. As a matter of fact, most of the citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom have quite a bit of athleticism. During the Nintendo Direct presentation today, Nintendo finally gave fans what they have been requesting for years, a new Mario Golf game. Mario has played a variety of sports over the years but it has been quite a while since we have seen him on the golf course. Well, that is all going to change this summer and Mario and party hit the links to see who is the best golfer in the group.

Of course with this being a Mario sports title, there are going to be a lot of hijinks. There will be your standard golf mode but there will also be Speed Golf and a “career mode” where you go through an RPG-like adventure. In my opinion, it looks like a bit of a cross between Mario Golf and Golf Story.

Mario Golf: Super Rush will allow you to hit the course by yourself or with a small group of friends. You can either locally with friends or online. There will also be different ways to play depending on what you have. If you want to detach the joy-cons you can use the motion controls to pull back and swing like you would a golf club in real life. Obviously if you own a Nintendo Switch Lite this won’t be an option for you as there are not detachable joy-cons. Fortunately, there are more standard button controls as well so everyone can play the game, regardless of the hardware they own.

I briefly mentioned Speed Golf up above and it is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. You can tee off at the same time with up to three other players. Once you do that you will have to race around the course to get your ball in the hole first. You will have to outpace and outmaneuver your opponents with dashes, special shots, and more. Mario, for example, can blow other players' balls away.

The aforementioned story mode features your Mii character. You will start going through training in a prestigious country club and work your way on your rise from rookie to pro. You will have to go up against Mushroom Kingdom citizens that are going through the same training you are and earn as many experience points as you can. You will have to level up your character to improve stats like spin, power, and movement. You can also bring your character (along with their stats) into other modes as well.

Mario Golf: Super Rush is slated to be released on June 25, 2021, right as summer is beginning. Do you plan on hitting the virtual golf course this summer? Take a look at the announcement trailer and then tell us what you think below.
