Last of Us: Part II Shatters Records Selling Over 4 Million Opening Weekend

News: Naughty Dog’s latest title has become the fastest-selling PS4 game put out by a first-party studio.

We recently wrote about how Last of Us Part II had a stellar launch weekend in the United Kingdom and now the PlayStation Blog has said the same is true for North America. According to Sony, The Last of Us: Part II is the fastest selling first-party PS4 exclusive ever with more than four million copies sold through June 21st. For those unaware, The Last of Us: Part II was released on June 19th, so that means that four million copies were sold in approximately three days. We are posting this story on June 26th so one has to assume the number is far higher by now as well.

Neil Druckmann, the Vice President of Naughty Dog and Director for The Last of Us: Part II had a message to share with everyone:

The Last of Us: Part II is Naughty Dog’s latest opus and is a massive success, both critically and commercially. We here at Gaming Target really enjoyed it as well as you can see with our review. A big congratulations goes out to the team at Naughty Dog for giving us the PlayStation 4’s most successful and biggest game just a few months before the launch of the PlayStation 5.
