News: This was perhaps an inevitability with the number of big companies that had canceled their appearance over the last week or so.
We have been keeping busy the past few days updating everyone on companies that have decided not to attend the Game Developers Conference this year due to Coronavirus concerns. Well, on the official GDC website, they have announced that GDC 2020 has been postponed. It is important to note that they didn’t say it was outright canceled but one has to wonder if it will ever take place in 2020 with all of the other conventions that line the calendar throughout the year. Of course, GDC isn’t the first big conference to go this route. Mobile World Congress also announced a little while back that they were canceling that event as well for the same reason.
The GDC website had the following to say:
” After close consultation with our partners in the game development industry and community around the world, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the Game Developers Conference this March.
Having spent the past year preparing for the show with our advisory boards, speakers, exhibitors, and event partners, we're genuinely upset and disappointed not to be able to host you at this time.
We want to thank all our customers and partners for their support, open discussions, and encouragement. As everyone has been reminding us, great things happen when the community comes together and connects at GDC. For this reason, we fully intend to host a GDC event later in the summer. We will be working with our partners to finalize the details and will share more information about our plans in the coming weeks.”
What do you think about this cancellation? Were you still planning on going to GDC this year despite all of the cancelations? Or had you decided to stay home? Tell us in the comment section below.
