News: Amazon has revealed that they now offer 20% off on games to Prime members although there are some caveats.
Amazon has revealed a new perk for those of us that have Amazon Prime, 20% off video game pre-orders. This is similar (but not quite as good) to Best Buy’s Gamers Club Unlocked program where you can get 20% off any game at any time, among other things. With Amazon’s program you can only get 20% off on games during pre-order through two weeks after release. This promotion only applies to the physical copies of games. What that means is that if you are someone that has gone strictly digital this generation then you will not be able to take advantage of this new benefit. It should be pointed out though that this 20% promotion includes amiibo as well. The discount will be applied automatically at checkout and this offer will be automatically extended to all existing Prime member pre-orders. It should be noted that this 20% program only works when you buy a game that is shipped and sold by Amazon. If you choose to buy a game from a third party seller on Amazon then you will not be eligible for the 20% promotion.
This new benefit is the latest in a string of items that Amazon has added to make their Prime service more enticing. Amazon Prime is available for $99 a year but you get a lot of bang for yoru buck with that $99. For starters Prime members get free two day shipping on Prime eligible items. If you live in one of the metro areas that offers same-day delivery then you can get that for free as well. You also have access to Prime Video which is Amazon’s Netflix-esque type service as well as Prime Music, secure photo storage with Prime Photos, access to more than one million books to borrow with the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library and more. It really is a great service that everyone should be using.
This new 20% benefit for Prime members will also work on collector’s editions of games but it will not work with bundles including but not limited to console gaming bundles. Unfortunately Amazon has not said whether this new benefit is available worldwide or if it is just available within the United States. If any of our readers who live outside of the United States and have Amazon Prime could leave in the comments below whether or not you can get the 20% off on games that would be fantastic and a great way to help out your fellow gamer.
What do you think about this new Amazon Prime benefit? Will you get some use out of it or is it to limited? For our American readers, do you prefer Best Buy’s Gamers Club Unlocked membership? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
